Over The Moon
Yesterday, I attended a Yoga for Kids workshop at Over The Moon Yoga and Dance Studio in Castlemaine.
The studio occupies a weatherboard former Sunday School, and is both quirky and harmonious. The inside space had white walls and a white carpet, and all manner of interesting things go on in there.
The owner, Edna Reinhardt, has been teaching children yoga and dance for almost 30 years, and her experience shows. She has the flexibility of a kid herself, in both her body and her personality, and she had us pretend to be children of various ages in order to practice yoga in the way that they would – runing to jump under a billowing slik canopy for our pranayama, hopping from dot to dot around the room, forming yoga poses as we go, making zen sculptures with bowls, stones, and chopsticks. It was wonderful!
I will definitely be back, and if you are interested in knowing more about Edna’s work, you can get a little bit of her no matter where you are: she sells a set of yoga cards called Creative Yoga Games for Kids. They are colourful, well-designed, and really ueful for parents or teachers wanting to incorporate yoga into their teaching or parenting.

I am so excited to look at this book! My son, 5, makes up his own yoga moves. He has been watching me do yoga for a long time. This sounds awesome! Wish we could transport ourselves right to Enda’s studio! Love the fabulous collage of pink items on your blog main page .. beautiful & inspiring.
Eamonn, my 4 yr old, is constantly testing me on my yoga pose knowledge: “what is this yoga pose?” he asks, rolling onto his side; “what is this one?” he says, running down the hallway. I try to tell him a pose name that is close to what he is doing (uh, rolling dog?)…as if he needed the validation. All of his asana are completely Kinetic and usually are accompanied by loud sound effects. I keep his versions of Warrior 2 (snarly face with roar and pointed fingers), etc, in mind whenever class gets to serious.
Kids, man, they are the original gurus…
