The Everyday Yogini was talking about her ‘ two words‘ for the year. It got me to thinking what mine would be. Strangely, I had actually already been working with two words, in my morning meditation. Before I tell you what they are, let me just be upfront and say that one of my intentions for 2009 is to reconnect with my daily meditation practice. It took a knock last year, with all the upheaval. You know, because last year I probably needed to meditate more than ever before. So I didn’t. At least not nearly often enough!
The physical discomfort that immediately ensues from neglecting my asana practice keeps me on my mat every day. Funny, though, the mental, emotional, and spiritual discomfort of not meditating, that, I ignore. So I am putting my intention out into the world. I will return to my daily meditation practice.
Okay, so, what were those two words?
A variation on a mantra Janice Clarfield taught us in her prenatal yoga training:
(Janice uses Opening, Letting Go, but my OCD personality likes the symmetry of two words that end in ‘ing’.)
My meditation practice till now has been a simple Zen breath counting practice, so it was a revelation how powerfully this mantra affected me. All the grief and fear I have been holding just welled up, and I have ended up in tears every day for the last three days. In a good, releasing way, never fear!
It just reinforces how strongly the mind, emotions and body influence each other. Because the main release has been at my heart centre, and *surprise* I have had very tight shoulders for a while now. No stretching releases them. But the meditation has.
Have you ever thought about what words would be yours?
