To Get Back to the Love

So Kerry and I were in Mart 130 the other day, which, might I tell you, is A Very Cool Cafe (you don’t have to believe me though – go read this review), and they started playing this song:

God Knows (you gotta give to get) by El Perro Del Mar. I haven’t heard it in AGES, and it’s awesome. Melbourne Cafes are so cool, and they play such hip music. Sigh.

Anyway, I digress. The lyrics to this song just really spoke to me. Because you know how I told you it’s difficult for me to go easy on myself? Well, I’m still in need of easy time, but am starting to get impatient with myself and Do More Than I Should. Partly, this is because work is busy (thank you, work. I heart you for being there and allowing me to make a living doing what I love). Partly, this is just because I feel like I am getting behind in my tasks. I need to read all the blog posts I have missed these last weeks. I need to send emails I owe people. I need to see people I haven’t seen in a while…

Um, hang on. No. That would backsliding into busyness.

So, here, in public, I am giving myself permission to continue to Give to Get Back to the Love. I will, I must, give myself as much time and rest as I need. And stop asking so much of myself without, um, giving back.

Gack!

I hope none of you check whether I am actually doing this!

Now, further on the topic of getting back to the love, I got another blog award!

This one is from the folks at Online Nursing Programs – they included me last year too. Apparently,

Winners were chosen through a scoring system led by internet nominations,

which came from your reader base!

Woooo! Thanks, reader base! You can see their whole winning list here. Some pretty cool ones that I didn’t know about before, yay!

Now, since I am on a roll with the blog awards, remember I mentioned that Christine gave me one too?

Since she is rather an ass-kicking warrior chick herself, as are the other women on her list, I am totally feeling the love. In the interests of paying it forward, I want to share with you just a few of the blogeuses (and friends)  who have been super-inspiring me lately:

Kerry (of course!)

Leigh-Ann

Jen Lee

Andrea

Abby

Warrior chicks one and all.

How do you give back to yourself?

Also, are there any inspiring blogs you think I should be reading?

Oh my gosh, thank you SO much Nadine!!! You definitely deserved it and I’m just thrilled to bits you thought I did… thank you!! <3

    Congratulations! Awards well deserved. :-)

Rather than recommend more blogs, I’d like to recommend you write three letters to yourself at ages 16, 26 and 36. Feel free to share, or not. But you will be surprised how much love you feel for those three girls who are not only part of who you were and who you will become, but very much a part of your now.

Confronting, but freeing. And I reckon you’re up to the task!

    xx

Thanks Kat! I loved reading yours, so I think I’m gonna do it. In my journal, and then maybe on the blog. The letters have started swilling around in my head already.

    Thanks you guys!

    @Rachel – yay you, congrats!

@Nona – right back atcha, you are amazing!

@Kris – confession: my first thought on hearing that song was also about giving out. Until I realised that I am the one in need of giving back to at the moment. Like you say, balance balance balance. It’s a dance…

@Kathleen – ooohhhh, only six weeks till Cape Town? Yay! I am so envious!

Congrats on the awards Nadine – very well deserved!

The last few weeks have been manic..and the rest of this week is fairly manic too..I’m not sleeping well at all – hence I’m on the internet at 4am!! It feels like I’ve been packing and sorting and cleaning and moving for the last month..we’re over the move now and just a bit more cleaning to do, unpacking and reorganising and then maybe I can exhale! In the meantime I worry about all the things that are falling by the wayside while my life is consumed by this move. My only solace is keeping copious lists…and knowing that in 6 and a half weeks I will be on my way to Cape Town for some serious R&R and well overdue family/friend catch up time. Yay!

Take it easy (I know how difficult that can be!)

SUCH A COOL SONG!! Never heard it before. Just lovely :-) ) Funny, when I heard it; right away I’m thinking of giving to other people–not to myself. Overall I’m pretty good at taking care of myself–other than nasty doubt and lack of forgiving myself. I’m great at declining invites, or limiting my friendships because I need/love self-time. Yet you heard what you needed to hear: give back to Nadine and take care of you and your body. You’re right; giving to all aspects of life–the earth, ourselves, others, our homes, etc. Balance, balance, balance :-)

Keep taking care of yourself!! xoxo

Congratulations on all the blog-award lovin’, Nadine!! You absolutely are a peaceful warrior and I’m so grateful to know you and love you. Take good care of yourself.

Wooo for the award. Apparently I got one too. I have no idea who voted for me. I should thank my dear readers also.

Right now I am working on giving time back to myself. More on that on the blog on Friday I think. Still mulling it over….

Sweet song. Just recently I’ve been playing with my frustrations, only to realise this is another waste of space emotion. We need to stay inspired, and aim for openness, joy and love. Everything else takes us away from that, really. So no “shoulds”, just take it easy and enjoy :)

    • nadinefawell July 26, 2010 at 10:31 am #

@Svasti Wow, that was a quick response!

I had a hilarious email from someone after I talked about my conversations with my fear. She said facing our fear is great, but spending too long doing that is like talking to a red traffic light, and who wants to spend their life talking to road signs?

Sounds kinda like what you are saying, non?
