I seldom do REAL arm balances because my wrists kind of hate them – I can.
But I shouldn’t. The prep poses though? I love for the strength they develop.

Hi Nadine, I tried the downward dog one with the pulsing leg and – wow! What a great pose! It has considerably more oompf to it than you would think just to look at it. This is definitely going to be a regular in my asana practice. [Can we call it downward three-legged dog pose???]
