Get outside.

Happy Winter Solstice, Southern Hemisphere folks! And Summer Solstice to those of you up North. Man, how tough is it to get outside in the winter weather?

Back when I chose my Two Words for 2012, I was feeling desperate for more time outdoors.

‘Stillness’, to me, means time in nature. Good news. I’ve done great at getting outside, so, finally, the stillness is coming.

Getting outside is important not just for our souls, which seem to need reminding that we are part of the natural world, not just the Facebook world.

It also makes sure you keep your Vitamin D stores up. In the US, as many as three quarters of people are Vitamin D deficient. Baaaad news for our bones.

We need about 20 minutes a week of sunblock-free sun-exposure to our faces and arms  in Summer, when UV is high, and a few hours in Winter, when UV is low.

Yoga in the sun on Brighton Beach.

The spectacular view at Mirador Springs.

Hopetoun Falls, Victoria. QUITE a steep walk back up to the road ;)

Get outside: do those two words motivate you? I’d love you to join the Two Words Project on Facebook & figure out what does get you up and going!

Oh my goodness yes! I’ve just arrived in cold, overcast Nairobi from my tropical haven and I am having such trouble getting outdoors. Partly cause it’s not an outdoors kinda place, partly cause it’s cold and grey! Here’s to sunshine up ahead somewhere!

Yip. Winter is biting pretty damn hard in New Zealand right now. I’m sure I’m not getting enough sun right now, but I do still try to go for a walk as often as I can [preferably at the beach] and I love me some hooping outside under the stars! Happy solstice to you, Nadine.

My daily bush walk is as much a part of my Yoga practice as rolling out my mat. Getting outside is my go-to for solving many a funk! I’m with you girlfriend, ‘stillness’ is time in nature. So glad you are finding time to be outside xo
