Heal

If you are ready to heal from your trauma, you are going to need good people around to support you. Yoga is awesome: most of us need more than that though.

Here are the people in Melbourne who helped me:

GP: Dr Carrie Hsieh – she finally got me to go on anti-anxiety medication and it changed everything when I was going through the worst of my flashbacks. She is also very sensitive that you may have shame around your sexuality and sexual health. Plus she’s not a man, and if you were abused by a man, you may have a hard time with male doctors. I know I do.

Psychologist: Vanessa Poliness – she specialises in sexual trauma and folks, it really makes a difference. Compassionate, sensible, and gets you deep in a safe way.

Kinesiologists:

Merryl Key – so kind, holds a safe space, which is essential with this work, and also specialises in sexual abuse work. Which again means she understands what you are going through, you don’t have to explain yourself.

Kerry Belviso – my dear friend. Powerful beyond words, and dealing increasingly with people who have er, these issues.

And SECASA – what great work this non-profit does. If you can’t afford to pay for all the healing stuff (and it does get really pricey) you can get most of it from them for nothing.

In fact, I so believe in what they are doing, and so think every survivor should have access to healing, that I’ve made an awesome Yoga Calendar for 2012 to benefit them.

All funds raised from it go directly to SECASA.

Donate as little as $1 (although more would be so generous and empowering of you!) and get this baby in PDF form:
